According to the monthly notices of unqualified foods and cosmetics from January to June by GAC, 554 batches of imported foods were found unqualified and refused for entry in the first half of 2019.

 
Unqualified foods came from 49 countries or regions, including Vietnam, Bulgaria, Turkey, Germany, Russia, France, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Czech Republic, Malaysia, United States, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Japan, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Italy, India, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Pakistan, Brazil, Belgium, Congo, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Norway, Greece, Iran, Canada, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan region.

Among which, 69 batches from Vietnam, 63 batches from Japan, 57 batches from Taiwan region.

The foods refused for entry did not comply with China’s laws and regulations. The main reasons of rejection were: food additive problems, lack of inspection and quarantine, exceeding the shelf life, unqualified quality, excessive use of nutritional fortifiers, microbial contamination, unqualified packaging, unqualified certificates, unqualified labels, carrying harmful organisms, inconsistent documents, etc.

The top 1 rejection reason was food additive issue, involving 83 batches of imported food, with the following reasons of lack of inspection and quarantine (63 batches) and microbial contamination (64 batches).

22 entry ports were involved, namely Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Hohhot, Huangpu, Nanjing, Nanning, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Urumqi, Zhengzhou, Gongbei, Xiamen, Fuzhou, Ningbo, Kunming, Manzhouli, Dalian, Xi'an and Haikou.

Among which, 116 batches of imported food were rejected or destroyed at Shanghai Port, 69 batches at Nanning Port, 66 batches at Shenzhen Port, 52 batches at Ningbo Port and 50 batches at Tianjin Port.
