The European Commission has confirmed on 30 August 2017 that no special legal regime will be adopted to regulate sport foods. Under the Old PARNUTS Directive, regulating foods for consumers with particular nutritional needs sport foods were specifically regulated. However the act has been repealed with the adoption of Regulation (EU) No 609/2013 on foods for specific groups which no longer includes specific standards for sport foods. The Commission refers to a report presented on 15 June 2016 which showed that general food legislation provided the necessary safeguard for this type of foods, and no other specific rules had to be adopted. At present there are no elements which lead the Commission to change that conclusion.
